NLP, aka Neural-Linguistic Programming, is about using Persuasion Engineering as a Technology of Achievement. It aims in guiding someone step-by-step through specific instructions to learn the characteristics of top achievers and create a model for unlimited success.
Richard Bandler and John Grinder wrote The Structure of Magic in 1975 explaining what is NLP. The main idea behind NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is that the human nervous system is connected directly with the ability to speak and understand. As Richard Bandler and John Grinder wrote:

NLP is mainly addressed to salesmen as a tool to boost their sales. Normally, salesmen are selling material goods such as blenders or cars; yet, a salesman could be anyone who tries to persuade someone else to believe him in what he promises to do in the future, or what has happened in the past. He may even try to sell his non-material or spiritual offers. In other words, the word salesman covers also politicians, clergymen, historians and others. In the case of the historian, he may try to persuade that an invented deceptive event actually has happened so that this event turns eventually into history.

Invariable Illusion Effect
Sometimes, deception penetration, especially for humans, may be so deep and has lasted so long, that has created a permanent Invariable Illusion Effect where the deceived is reluctant to change his belief whatever convincing arguments against it are given. If someone has lived all his life deeply believing something it is almost impossible to change his ideas about it no matter how false it is.
This is exactly what Carl Sagan meant when he said that:
“You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe.”

The ultimate purpose of deception may be:
- an aggresive (attack) act,
- a defensive act, or
- a giving comfort act.
Whereas in the case of aggressive and defensive deception acts, the deceiver himself is presumably the one who benefits from these acts, in the case of a comfort giving deception act, the one who benefits is supposed to be the deceived person.
It is supposed that in so far as human beings is concerned, the law, in normal times, can protect the potential victims from the deceivers.

This has to do with the scale of the impact effect.
In the case of animals and plants, the impact of any specific deception act is limited to those directly affected. In the case of human beings, however, the impact of any specific deception act depends on the number of the targeted deceived persons or group of persons. The larger the number of persons affected by the deception the greater the impact. In some cases the impact may affect a significant proportion of population.
The large-scale deception may be called Mass Deception.
Mass Deception could lead to something different namely a Deception Illusion a property which could be measurable in the sense that no matter how obvious the deception is the target people still believe it. This is true especially when the people mass exceeds a predetermined Critical Mass. In that case, the deceivers have no reason to conceal the deception with plausible arguments. No matter what they argue the mass still believes them. They could even enjoy believing for events that are apparently unbelievable impossible. People walking on the sea, etc. which refers more to magic.
